If you withdrew your policy before the Compromise, you may be able to pursue a claim against Equitable even if the policy date was before 1998.

The key issue is whether you made the contribution with ADVICE from an Equitable salesman.

If you are one of the Late Contributors or Late Joiners who recently received a letter from Equitable offering the prospect of  2.5% or 5% compensation our advice is: - don't be in a hurry to sign anything. We understand that only 5,000 people out of 16,000 have signed up for this offer, so that's a lot of people who could band together to fight for justice.

The Penrose report should be out soon - and (if it isn't censored by the Treasury) it may well give you the evidence you need to support your claim.

Our advice is:  Complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service or consult a lawyer NOW and don't sign anything until you've consulted a lawyer.

The Equitable scheme is an attempt to buy you off with an offer of less than a fifth of what you have really lost. If you accept it you are signing away your legal rights to claim for fraud or negligence for ever!

You could expect to get much more through the FOS or the small claims court.
